Harnesses

In the case of light motory difficulties, even momentary, particular harness can be very helpful, allowing the owner to help his dog walk, or more simply climb stairs, get on a car, ecc.

For a general body support you may resort to a do-it-yourself or you can have a shoemaker help you out: self-made harnesstwo leather strings that sorround the chest, one right after the front legs and the other just before the back legs (adjustable with buckles); these are held together by another two horizontal strings, one below the belly and the other over the back. The latter will serve as a handle (like a case). Last but not least, another string (smaller in height) should be placed passing through the front neck part, so that the harness will not get unstrung through the back.
You can find harnesses that are not really the same as described above, but of similar concept, in commerce. You may buy them online, seeing the pictures and getting other information:

K9Carts (USA): Walkabelly

Dog Mobile Company (UK): Full body HARNESS.

rear harnessFor a more specific problem regarding only a part of the body, like the back legs or amputation of a leg, there is another type of harness. For the posterior there is a sort of ''brief'' that is put on the back legs having, on the top part, handles that help the dog be sustained right where is needed. It is closed with some velcro on the top part and it should leave the necessary spaces to urinate and defecate. The harness for the front part uses the same principles: it is put on the front legs and has handles for support. Of course you may also use both slings at the same time or adapt them for dogs missing a limb.

I think that only with an adequate tailoring experience it's possible to do everything by yourself. Keep in mind that if the dog is not a ''light weight'' you must use much more resistent materials. Also, watch out for the borders: they must be soft and rounded to prevent nuisance, pains or, worse, wounds to your dog.

In this case it may be more useful buying them already made. Without doubts you should find similar products around; otherwise they can be bought online from the following sites:

K9Carts (USA): Walkabout (front and rear);

Doggon' Wheels (UK): Saddle Support Sling (front and rear);

Doggon' Wheels (USA): Saddle Support Sling (front and rear);

Dog Mobile Company (UK): dogHARNESS (front and rear).

It's obvious that all slings can be combined in various ways among themselves. For example an old dog that has general motory difficulties with more marked problems on the back legs may wear the general leather string, plus a supporting ''brief'' for the rear legs.

In addition, keep in mind that some carts will require the aid of a harness.
